The three unusual births worth memorizing
Exams love the exceptions. Athena was born in full armor from the head of Zeus. Aphrodite, in Hesiod's version, rose from the sea foam and is older than Zeus himself. And Dionysus was born twice, sewn into the thigh of Zeus after his mother Semele burned. If a question looks like a trick, it is probably one of these three.
Where the heroes hang from the tree
The great heroes are the tree's lowest branches: Heracles and Perseus are sons of Zeus by mortal women, and Achilles is the son of the sea nymph Thetis. That is the pattern to remember: heroes are the children of one god and one mortal, carrying the family gift and the family curse at once.
