Artemis is the virgin huntress, goddess of wild places, beasts, and the moon, twin sister of Apollo who roams the forests with her band of nymphs. Fiercely protective of her chastity and her sacred animals, she destroys any who trespass, turning Actaeon to a stag and striking down the children of boastful Niobe. Guardian of young girls and women in childbirth, she is both nurturer and unforgiving avenger of the wild.
