Eros is desire itself, in the oldest tales one of the first powers to emerge from Chaos, the force that draws all things together and stirs creation into being. In later myth he becomes the winged son of Aphrodite, whose gold-tipped arrows make gods and mortals fall helplessly in love, and who himself loses his heart to the mortal Psyche.
