Ares is the Olympian god of war in its rawest form, revelling in slaughter and the din of battle, son of Zeus and Hera who scorn his savagery. He fights for Troy and is wounded by mortal Diomedes, bellowing as he flees to the heavens. His long affair with Aphrodite is exposed when Hephaestus traps the lovers in a golden net for the gods to mock.
