Harmonia is the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite, wed to Cadmus, founder of Thebes, in a marriage the gods themselves attend. Hephaestus gives her a necklace of surpassing beauty but lays a curse upon it, and it brings ruin to her descendants for generations. In old age she and Cadmus are transformed into serpents and carried to the Isles of the Blessed.
