Ino is a daughter of Cadmus who raises the infant Dionysus, drawing the wrath of Hera upon her house. Driven mad, her husband Athamas hunts down their son, and Ino flings herself from a cliff into the sea with her child in her arms. The gods take pity and transform her into the sea-goddess Leucothea, who later rescues the drowning Odysseus with her veil.
