Cadmus and Thebes

A search for a stolen sister ends in a slain dragon and a city cursed from its first stone.

When Zeus carries off Europa as a white bull, her brother Cadmus is sent to find her and forbidden to return without her. Following an oracle instead, he slays a dragon sacred to Ares and sows its teeth, raising armed men from the soil to found Thebes. He weds Harmonia in a marriage the gods attend, but a cursed gift plants the seed of a tragic dynasty.
