Eros and Psyche
Love itself fell for a mortal girl, and the gods made her suffer before they let her keep him.

Psyche's beauty so offends Aphrodite that the goddess sends her son Eros to ruin her, but the love-god is pricked by his own arrow and takes her as his secret bride. When Psyche betrays his trust and looks upon his hidden face, she loses him, and must endure Aphrodite's cruel and impossible trials to win him back. Her endurance earns her at last immortality and an eternal place at Love's side.
