Cronus is the youngest and boldest of the Titans, who castrates his father Uranus to seize the throne of the cosmos and rules over a golden age. Warned that his own child will overthrow him, he swallows each of his offspring at birth, until Rhea hides the infant Zeus and feeds him a stone instead. In the end the prophecy holds: Zeus frees his siblings and casts Cronus down into Tartarus.
