Poseidon is the brother of Zeus and god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses, who rules the restless waters from a palace beneath the waves. Quick to anger, he raises storms and splits the earth with his trident, and his wrath dooms Odysseus to wander for blinding his Cyclops son. He contests Athena for Athens and fathers monsters and heroes alike across the wide and dangerous sea.
