Polyphemus is the one-eyed son of Poseidon, a Cyclops who traps Odysseus and his men in his cave and devours them two by two. Odysseus blinds his single eye with a fire-hardened stake and escapes beneath the bellies of the ram flock, having tricked the giant with the name 'Nobody.' Polyphemus' prayer to his father brings Poseidon's wrath down on Odysseus' long road home.
