Uranus is the star-filled heaven, born of Gaia to cover her on every side. Mating with the Earth he fathers the Titans, the Cyclopes and the hundred-handed giants, yet he fears his own children and buries them deep within their mother. His tyranny ends when Cronus, hidden in ambush, unmans him with Gaia's sickle; from the blood that falls spring the Furies and the Giants, and from the foam of the sea, Aphrodite.
