Perseus is the son of Zeus and Danae, sent on the impossible quest to bring back the head of the Gorgon Medusa. Armed with the gods' gifts, he beheads her by watching her reflection in his mirrored shield, then flies home on winged sandals to rescue Andromeda from a sea-monster. His tale is one of the cleanest of heroic arcs, ending in a kingdom won and a prophecy grimly fulfilled.
