Thor is the red-bearded god of thunder, son of Odin and the earth Jord, who guards Midgard against the giants with the hammer Mjolnir, the iron gloves Jarngreipr, and the belt Megingjord that doubles his strength. His chariot is drawn by two goats he can slaughter and revive each night. He goes fishing for Jormungand the World Serpent, hauling it to the surface before the terrified Hymir cuts the line. Disguised as a bride, he reclaims his stolen hammer from Thrym. Beloved of farmers and sailors, he is doomed to slay the serpent at Ragnarok and die of its venom.
