Ullr

Ullr is the archer and skier of the snowbound wilds, son of Sif and stepson of Thor. He glides over mountains on bone skis or a magic shield, bow in hand, master of the hunt and of single combat. Snorri names him a god so fair and warlike that he is good to invoke in a duel. Saxo and the skalds hint at a time when Ullr ruled in Odin's place. Dozens of Norwegian and Swedish place names like Ullensaker and Ullevi mark his old worship. Oaths were sworn on his ring, binding combatants to honor.
