Agamemnon is the proud overlord of Mycenae and commander of the Greek host at Troy, brother to Menelaus and wielder of the kings' authority. To gain a favorable wind he sacrifices his own daughter Iphigenia at Aulis, and his quarrel with Achilles over the captive Briseis nearly dooms the war. He returns home victorious only to be cut down in his bath by his wife Clytemnestra.
