Menelaus is the Spartan king and husband of Helen, whose abduction by Paris launches the Trojan War. Brother to Agamemnon, he fights Paris in single combat and would have killed him but for Aphrodite snatching her favorite away. When Troy falls he reclaims Helen and sails home, granted in the end a place in the blessed Elysian Fields.
