Jotunheim
The vast, frigid land of the giants, shrouded in ice and stone, home to the ancient enemies of the gods.
Jotunheim is the vast, icy land of the giants, the ancient enemies of the gods. The Prose Edda places it by the ocean that rings the world, outside the wall of Midgard. Yet the line between giant and god is thin: Odin's mother Bestla was a giantess, Loki's father Farbauti a giant, and Freyr lost his heart to the giantess Gerd. Many of Thor's adventures happen in Jotunheim: his visit to Utgard-Loki, his fishing trip with Hymir, his duel with Hrungnir and the recovery of his hammer from Thrym. Thiazi carried Idun off to his home there, and his daughter Skadi left it for Asgard seeking vengeance.
