Skrymir is the giant of impossible size whom Thor, Loki, and Thjalfi meet on the road to Utgard. They sleep in what proves to be his glove, mistaking a thumb-room for a side hall. He carries their provisions in a knot Thor cannot untie, and three times in the night Thor strikes his sleeping head with Mjolnir, full force, yet the giant only stirs and asks whether a leaf or an acorn fell on him. The dents land instead on a distant mountain. Skrymir is in truth Utgarda-Loki in disguise, weaving illusions to humble the thunder god before he ever reaches the giant's gates.
