Jason is the rightful heir of Iolcus, sent by his usurping uncle Pelias on the quest for the Golden Fleece. He gathers the greatest heroes of the age aboard the Argo and braves clashing rocks and deadly trials to reach Colchis, where the sorceress Medea's love wins him the prize. But his later betrayal of her brings catastrophe, and he dies alone and broken beneath the rotting hull of his own ship.
