Castor is one of the twin Dioscuri, brother to Polydeuces and famed for taming horses, who sails with the Argonauts in quest of the Golden Fleece. When he is slain in battle, his immortal brother refuses to live without him. Zeus grants their wish to share one fate, and the inseparable brothers are placed in the heavens as the constellation Gemini.
