Aeson is the true heir to the throne of Iolcus, deposed by his half-brother Pelias. To save his infant son Jason, he smuggles the child away to be raised by the centaur Chiron. In some tellings the sorceress Medea restores the aged Aeson to youth by draining and refilling his veins with a magic brew.
