Nut

Nut is the sky goddess, daughter of Shu and Tefnut, sister and wife of the earth god Geb, and mother of Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys. She arches over the world as the star-spangled vault, her fingers and toes touching the four horizons while her father Shu holds her aloft above Geb. Each evening she swallows the sun, which travels through her body in the night to be reborn from her at dawn. Forbidden by Ra to give birth on any day of the year, she won five extra days from Thoth on which to bear her children. Painted inside coffin lids, she stretches protectively over the dead, promising rebirth.
