Geb is the god of the earth, often shown reclining green beneath his sister-wife Nut, the arched sky, his body the very land of Egypt. With Nut he fathered Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys, founding the line that rules the myth of kingship. His laughter was said to be earthquakes, and the dead could be imprisoned in his body. As a divine judge he settled the contest over Osiris's throne, and pharaohs claimed their right to the land as heirs to 'the seat of Geb.'
