Heliopolis
The City of the Sun, where Ra was worshipped and creation itself was said to have begun at the dawn of time.
Heliopolis, Iunu to the Egyptians and now under Cairo, was the City of the Sun, where Ra was worshipped and creation was said to have begun at the dawn of time. Its priests taught that Atum rose from the waters of Nun onto the first mound and created Shu and Tefnut, who bore Geb and Nut, the parents of Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys: the Ennead.
Here the sun was Khepri at dawn and Atum at dusk, and the Bennu bird, linked by Greek writers to the phoenix, alighted on the benben stone. Its myths are told in The Creation of the Ennead and Thoth and the Five Stolen Days.
