Khepri

Khepri is the sun at the moment of dawn, the scarab god who rolls the solar disk up over the horizon as a dung beetle rolls its ball across the sand. The Egyptians watched young beetles emerge seemingly from nothing and saw in it the sun creating itself anew each morning; his very name, kheper, means to come into being. He is one face of the threefold sun, Khepri at dawn, Ra at noon, Atum at dusk. The scarab amulet carved in his image promised rebirth, and Egyptians wore it for three thousand years.
