Theseus

He cleared the roads and slew the Minotaur, then learned how heroic kingship curdles into ruin.

Theseus journeys to Athens clearing the land of monsters and bandits, then sails to Crete and slays the Minotaur in the heart of the Labyrinth, escaping by Ariadne's thread. He becomes the model king of a united Athens. But his later years sour into tragedy: he abandons Ariadne, dooms his own son with a rash curse, and overreaches in the underworld itself.
