Greek mythology
Crete
Ancient island kingdom of King Minos, home of the labyrinth and the Minotaur.
The largest island of the Greek world was ruled by the powerful King Minos, son of Zeus. It was here that Daedalus built the labyrinth to contain the monstrous Minotaur, that Theseus came as a sacrificial tribute and slew the beast, and that Icarus flew too close to the sun. The island's ancient Minoan civilization made it a crossroads of myth and history.
