The Minotaur is a monster with the body of a man and the head of a bull, born when Minos' wife Pasiphae is cursed with desire for a sacred bull. Penned in the Labyrinth built by Daedalus, it devours the youths and maidens sent as tribute from Athens. At last Theseus enters the maze, slays it with his bare hands, and follows Ariadne's thread back to the light.
