Pirithous is the king of the Lapiths and the sworn companion of Theseus. At his wedding the drunken Centaurs attack the guests, sparking the great battle of Lapiths and Centaurs. Grown reckless, he and Theseus descend into the Underworld to carry off Persephone herself, but Hades traps them in the Chair of Forgetfulness, where Pirithous remains bound forever.
