Ladon is the serpent-dragon, offspring of Phorcys and Ceto, coiled around the tree of golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides at the world's western edge. He never sleeps, his hundred heads ever watchful. For one of his final Labors, Heracles must take the apples, either slaying Ladon with an arrow or sending Atlas to fetch them while he bears the sky; Hera sets the dragon among the stars as the constellation Draco.
