The Chimera is a monstrous hybrid born of Typhon and Echidna, a lion in the fore, a goat rising from her spine, and a serpent for a tail, all breathing living fire. She ravages the land of Lycia until the hero Bellerophon, mounted on the winged Pegasus, attacks from the air. He chokes her by ramming a lump of lead down her throat, where her own flames melt it and burn her from within.
