Cerberus is the monstrous watchdog of the Underworld, three snarling heads and a serpent tail, born of Typhon and Echidna. He lets every soul enter Hades' realm but allows none to leave. Only a few ever pass him: Orpheus lulls him with music, and Heracles drags him into daylight bare-handed as the last of his Labors.
