Hector is the eldest son of King Priam and the shield of Troy, the bravest of its defenders against the Greek host. He kills Patroclus in Achilles' borrowed armor, sealing his own doom; when Achilles returns to the field, Hector alone stands to face him while the city watches. Cut down before the gates, his body is dragged behind Achilles' chariot until Priam comes to beg it back.
