Andromache is the loving wife of Hector, prince of Troy, and mother of their infant son Astyanax. She pleads with her husband not to face Achilles, foreseeing the ruin his death will bring. When the city falls she loses everything: her child is hurled from the walls, and she is led away as a war-prize into bitter slavery.
