Hathor is the goddess of love, beauty, music, and joy, shown as a cow, as a woman crowned with horns and the sun disk, or with a gentle cow-eared face. She is the mother and consort of Horus and a daughter of Ra. When Ra sent his eye to slaughter rebellious mankind, she became the lioness Sekhmet and nearly destroyed the world, until the gods dyed beer red and she drank herself calm. As Lady of the Sycamore she meets the dead at the western horizon, offering shade, food, and welcome into eternity.
