Characters
Hathor · Horus · Isis · Ra · Seth · Thoth

Edfu was the temple city of Horus the falcon god, where the eternal battle between Horus and Seth was reenacted each year. Its temple, built between 237 and 57 BC, is the best preserved in Egypt. Its walls tell how Horus became a winged sun disk to defend Ra against Seth's followers, and how Thoth named him Horus of Behdet, the city's ancient name; Ra then had the winged disk set over every temple door.

In the Festival of Victory drama, Horus, urged on by Isis, harpooned Seth as a hippopotamus, and each year Hathor sailed from Dendera to meet him. Their rivalry fills The Contendings of Horus and Seth.
