The Seven Against Thebes

Seven champions marched on seven gates, and the cursed sons of Oedipus met at the last.

The Seven Against Thebes

When Eteocles refuses to yield Thebes to his exiled brother Polynices, the prince raises an army of seven great champions, one for each of the city's seven gates. The seer Amphiaraus rides to war knowing it will kill him, and one by one the attackers fall before the walls. At the seventh gate the brothers meet at last and run each other through, fulfilling their father Oedipus's curse that they divide his kingdom by the sword.
