Wepwawet

Wepwawet is the jackal or wolf god whose name means Opener of the Ways. He scouts ahead of the gods, clearing the path for armies marching to war and for souls journeying through the Duat. His standard, carried at the head of royal processions and the Osiris festivals at Abydos, went before the king to open the road to victory. One of Egypt's oldest deities, worshipped at Asyut, he was later overshadowed by Anubis in funerary cult but kept his ancient role as the trailblazer, the one who clears the way that others may follow.
