Sokar rules the deepest, most silent region of the underworld, the Shetyt, a realm so still the solar bark must be dragged overland through it. A falcon god of ancient Memphis, patron of metalworkers and the necropolis, he embodies the dark, motionless interval of death before new life stirs. His great Memphite festival, when his hawk-headed barque was carried in procession, was among Egypt's chief funerary celebrations. Fused into Ptah-Sokar-Osiris, he binds together the craftsman's making, the stillness of the grave, and the promise of resurrection.
