- The Divine Birth of the Pharaoh
Meskhenet is the goddess of childbirth, present at the very first breath of every life. She is the spirit of the birthing bricks on which Egyptian women crouched to deliver, and at that moment she breathes the ka into the newborn and speaks the destiny it will carry. In one famous tale she stands among the goddesses who deliver three future kings of Egypt and foretells their reigns. She waits again in the hall of Osiris, testifying when the heart is weighed, closing the circle of the fate she set at birth.
