Renenutet is the cobra goddess of the harvest and of nourishment, who blesses the grain in the fields and the granaries that store it. At a child's birth she is said to whisper its true name and decree its fate, making her a protector of newborns and their hidden souls. Farmers offered her the first fruits of the harvest, and her festival fell at the start of the reaping season. Shown as a rearing cobra or a woman with a serpent's head, she nurses both the living and, in the afterlife, the righteous dead. Her son is the grain god Nepri.
