Fenrir

Fenrir is the monstrous wolf, son of Loki and the giantess Angrboda, brother to Jormungandr and Hel. Fearing a prophecy, the gods raise him in Asgard, but he grows so vast they resolve to bind him. He snaps two iron chains with ease, so the dwarves forge Gleipnir, a ribbon made of impossible things. Suspecting a trick, Fenrir agrees only if a god lays a hand in his jaws as pledge; Tyr alone dares, and loses his right hand when the wolf cannot break free. He lies fettered, a sword propping his jaws, until Ragnarok, when he breaks loose and swallows Odin whole before Vidar tears him apart.
