Narfi is a son of Loki and Sigyn, brother to Vali. When the gods finally seize Loki to punish him for engineering Baldr's death, they turn Vali into a wolf, who tears Narfi apart. From Narfi's entrails the gods bind Loki to three slabs of stone deep in a cave; the gut hardens into iron fetters. There Loki lies as Skadi fixes a serpent overhead to drip venom on his face, while Sigyn catches the drops in a bowl. Narfi's death furnishes the very bonds that hold his father until Ragnarok.
