Amun

Amun is the hidden god, his name meaning the invisible one, a force present everywhere yet seen by none, like the wind. Rising from a local Theban deity, he became King of the Gods and the supreme power of the Egyptian state, his vast temple at Karnak swelling with the spoils of empire. He merged with the sun god to form Amun-Ra, joining hidden mystery to blazing solar light. As a creator he made himself, then made all else, and his oracle spoke through the movements of his sacred barque. Pharaohs called themselves his sons, and his ram and goose were sacred to him.
