Aeetes is the formidable king of Colchis, son of the sun-god Helios and keeper of the Golden Fleece, which hangs in a grove watched by a sleepless dragon. When Jason comes to claim it, he sets deadly tasks of fire-breathing bulls and sprung warriors. He is undone by his own daughter Medea, who falls for the hero and helps him steal the prize away.
