Sisyphus is the crafty king of Corinth who twice cheats Death itself, even chaining Thanatos so none could die. For his trickery against the gods he is doomed in the underworld to heave a great boulder up a hill. Each time it nears the summit it rolls back down, and his labor begins again, without end.
