Erebus is the personification of deep shadow, the unlit gloom that fills the hollows beneath the earth. Born of Chaos alongside Night, he is the darkness through which the dead must pass on their way to Hades. With Nyx he fathers the gentle light of Day and the airy brightness of Aether, darkness giving birth to its own opposite.
