Svartalfheim
The dark underground realm of the dwarves and dark elves, where master craftsmen forge legendary weapons and treasures.
Svartalfheim, the home of the black elves, is the dark realm beneath the earth that the Prose Edda links with the dwarves, the master smiths behind the gods' greatest treasures. When no chain could hold the wolf Fenrir, Odin sent the messenger Skirnir there, and its dwarves forged the soft, unbreakable fetter Gleipnir. Snorri also sends Loki there to catch the dwarf Andvari, who swam in a waterfall in the shape of a pike, and seize his gold and his cursed ring. The sources rarely say where each smith works, but Brokk, Sindri, Dvalin, Fjalar and Galar all belong to this underground people.
