Sindri, also called Eitri, is the master dwarf smith of the sons of Ivaldi's rival workshop, brother of Brokkr. Wagered by Loki that they cannot match the elves' treasures, the brothers forge three wonders: the golden boar Gullinbursti for Freyr, the self-multiplying ring Draupnir for Odin, and the hammer Mjolnir for Thor. As Sindri works the bellows, Loki turns into a biting fly to ruin the smithing; he stings Brokkr's eyelid so the handle of Mjolnir comes out short. The gods still judge the hammer the finest gift, winning the bet for the dwarves.
